We are completely oblivious to kids losing teeth over here. Benjamin still has all of his baby teeth and so we didn't even start to think about Lizzie losing hers. A couple of weeks ago, I was helping Lizzie out of the bath and as we were getting her dressed, I thought I'd check to see if any of her teeth were coming loose. As it turned out, a new tooth on had already appeared behind her baby one. Phil right away freaked her out saying I should take her to a dentist and she automatically started crying about seeing one. Thanks, dad. I reassured her we wouldn't have to see a dentist, but that her baby tooth wanted to come out. And of course to cushion the blow, I immediately went to the tooth fairy. "She'll come and bring you a gift!...but she needs your baby tooth." Lizzie's eyes finally gave way to anticipation of seeing the Tooth Fairy. But as the week went on, she could care less about seeing that Fairy and more about keeping her teeth from "bleeding!" Oy vey.
As luck would have it, the tooth never came out, no matter how much we wiggled it. So last Friday when Aunt Ceri was over we were able to care of some business. We won't make mention that two adults had to help her "keep still", but it took less than 30 seconds to remove that tooth.
Moments after her initial tooth extraction.

And of course, the Tooth Fairy is a little ridiculous. I hear she gives out $10 bills at some homes--ours got a little carried away in the dollar section of Target and got her some sun glasses, Go-Fish, and $2 in quarters. I guess the Tooth Fairy was just as excited as the little girl who lost her tooth. It was my first time too ;-) You can say Lizzie was just a little excited when she found out that the Tooth Fairy had visited her that night--she was up at 4am.
Make them stop growing.
Please!!!
