Christmas Morning + 2012

Christmas this year, we celebrated a few days before, so that Phil was able to come and see the kids open their gifts.  I know it is something I would not want to miss seeing, and for the time being, we can work around his schedule.  So, it was only right to invite him to celebrate this day.

This year so many wonderful things have been going on and new experiences, for both the kiddos and myself.  This year, both the kids had class parties, activities and willing helping hands.  Elizabeth finally got the notion of Santa and what he was all about.  She was worried at one point that because we didn't have a fireplace for Santa, how would he bring the presents?  I assured her he had special magic and would visit our house too.  Seriously cute, I tell ya.

And the night before Christmas, Elizabeth helped me cut and frost the cookies for Santa.  She also helped count out the reindeer treats as well.  She was a great little helper!

This year for Christmas, Santa brought bikes for both of them.  Ever since witnessing Ben ride a bike at school, we knew he needed one here at home.  And because Lizzie loves to ride as well, it just wouldn't make any sense not to get her a Princess bike too.  I made sure she got one so that her favorite dolls can ride with her...and as of now, her Minnie Mouse from Aunt Iara.   She doesn't go anywhere without her!

The number of gifts this year were few, but due largely in part that I think it helps us to remember the real reason we celebrate Christmas.  This year, the kids were introduced to the Nativity story.  Thankfully my wonderful mother, gave us an awesome FHE box, chuck full of lessons for activities for the kids.  One of them, a large board to retell the story of Jesus' birth.

Mind you--it pretty much went over their heads and I did it in like 5 minutes.
But by Christmas, Lizzie actually remembered why we celebrated Christmas.
It actually worked!!  Talking about Jesus and reminding her of the story...
she remembered!

This year, I had fun with the gifts.  Getting some uber cute ribbon, at 75% off at Micheal's, I decked
out those presents.  They came out super cute and fancy.

Christmas morning came and Lizzie and Ben didn't know what to do.

Ben went straight to the leftover cookies, Santa didn't eat (typical).
And Lizzie didn't know what to do...I think it was partially due to the fact that
Daddy was recording her and she felt on the spot.  I think we can rule out any
possible career in front of the camera.

Part of what I am loving every year, is that I'm finding new traditions and things to bake!  This is huge given the little known fact that if you know me at all...you know I don't cook.  But I do love me some yummy goodies...so baking is okay on my list.  These yummy cinnamon rolls, which I found via: a mommy's favorite site (Pinterest)...will be a tradition from here on out.  Super easy, maybe just a bit of prep work, but oh-so worth the time.  They were heaven.  HUGE!

But Heaven.

After the morning of playing with all their new goodies, we headed off to church in our new Christmas outfits.   I bought Lizzie's dress from Target and decided to make Ben a tie.  I was excited because this would be his first real tie!  Not a clip on.  But an actual tie.  Thankfully daddy was around so he could tie it, I guess I better get familiar with it, huh?

They looked adorable, to say the least.  For dinner we had ham, potatoes, salad, biscuits and cider.  And ended the night in Rancho, looking at Christmas lights.  Again, another tradition we've been doing for the last 4 years.  It was a great night and the kids did so well walking the street.  Ben made some friends, of course. A man with a dog on a leash.  As we walked he reached out and grabbed the leash, walking with the man.  (Mind you, he was holding my other hand).  The man was generous and laughed it off and allowed Ben to help.  The more and more I notice, the kid is in love with animals.  I guess maybe a dog is in our future??

Christmas was a blast.  I am happy that there are so many traditions and memories that will forever be with my children.  And I hope every year, I can help them to know the true meaning of what Christmas is about.

I truly am thankful for my Savior, Jesus Christ, and his glorious and humble beginnings on this earth.  For his love and example.  I love my Savior and my Heavenly Father and for all of the blessings He gives me.

I hope you all had a blessed day,

MERRY CHRISTMAS!
